Tomato Fruitworm on Solanaceous Crops

Return to Insect Pests

Tomato fruitworm (Helicoverpa zea). Tomato fruitworm is the same pest as corn earworm. Early fruitworm generations attack corn, particularly when it is silking. However, tomatoes are preferred for egg laying over corn when the silks turn brown and dry. Adult moths usually have light brown wings with a dark spot near the middle. Moths fly at night looking for a suitable place to lay their eggs.
